Wall St. Protesters Show the Way

Congratulations to the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters.
They’ve got the right target, that’s for sure. It’s the banks on Wall Street that brought our entire economy down, and they haven’t had to pay a nickel for it. Nor have their executives been charged with any crime, much less gone to jail.
I also admire the tactics and the courage of these protesters. They’ve been demonstrating in the streets, which is where we need to be. And they’ve stood up to disgusting police brutality and have broadcast it, via YouTube, to the whole world.
It’s truer now than ever that “the whole world is watching,” as some of the protesters chanted, though the corporate media ignored it.
Protests like this, and like the one that 350.org held at the White House a few weeks ago over the tar-sands pipeline, are a healthy sign that people are finally rising up.
We saw such a sign in Madison, Wisconsin, in February and March.
And we’re going to see another sign next week in Washington, D.C., as people engage in more civil disobedience to protest the tenth anniversary of the Afghan War.
People can only take so much. And this rising up, tardy as it is, is a welcome sight.
