Dems Rectify Ledbetter Ruling

There’s a lot of virtue to the Democrats holding both houses of Congress and the Presidency.
It didn’t take long to prove this because on Thursday, the Senate voted 61 to 36 to reverse a horrible Supreme Court decision back in 2007 that deprived victims of sex discrimination from suing their bosses if they found out about the sex discrimination too late.
This was the so-called Lilly Ledbetter case. Ledbetter worked for an Alabama tire company, and the guys were getting higher pay than she was for the same work. But because she didn’t discover this right away, the Roberts-Alito-Scalia-Clarence Thomas court said she was out of luck.
Ever since, Democrats have been trying to overturn it. But Bush and the Republicans stymied them.
Fortunately, the bill has now passed the Senate by a filibuster-proof margin, and it’s expected to fly through the House shortly.
Obama, who invited Ledbetter to come to the inauguration with him, is obviously all on board.
Now if he can only fix the imbalance on the Supreme Court that allowed such a reactionary ruling in the first place, then we can really make some headway.
