How Billionaires Are Buying Our Politics
The Progressive’s editor-in-chief Ruth Conniff was on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” Tuesday night to discuss the dire threat posed to campaign finance reform by the Supreme Court, which is holding oral arguments on a case that could open the floodgates of big money into America’s political process.
“[The Koch brothers] got together a group of people and they planned the government shutdown,” she said. “They planned not to allow the affordable care act to go into effect and to bring the government to a complete, screeching halt, and they gave the Republicans their talking points about how this law was a trainwreck even before it ever even went into effect. Because of their influence, now a minority of tea party activists can bring our whole government to a halt, can stop single mothers from getting infant formula for their babies for however long they like, because they do not want this settled law to take effect.”
